Annual Events

This page lists the major events which are run annually by the Somerset VMCC with a brief background of the each event, and the dates of the next event where available.

This is most certainly not an exhaustive list of the events run by the section. To see the other events we run, (or for further details of those listed below), have a browse through the Events Calendar.

Autojumble

Despite rumours to the contrary, we will always remain an INDEPENDENT AUTOJUMBLE .

Our Autojumble is held twice a year, originally at the Bath & West Showground but from autumn 2024 moved to a new venue at Cheddar. It  is made up of a large number (some 500) of stallholders selling all manner of motorcycles, parts, tools and paraphernalia. This event is certainly not to be missed.

The next Autojumble is to be held on  Saturday October 3rd 2026  (the new venue allows us to actually have dates in our preferred spring and autumn seasons!)

PLEASE SEE AUTOJUMBLE PAGE FOR MORE DETAILS

Cheddar Weekend

The Cheddar weekend is usually arranged for April, a two-day event with two runs around the Mendips and Levels – the Saturday run tries to include a visit to somewhere of local interest, the Sunday run is a ‘Road Trial’ (with  results counting towards the Western Region Road Trials Championship).

Many entrants stay overnight – there are camp-sites adjacent to the usual venue at Cheddar Football Club. Historically there has been an optional sit-down meal arranged for the Saturday evening, using the Football Club’s amenities, for the last few years we haven’t been able to find  suitable catering arrangements but for this year we hope to provide this again.

The 2026 event will be held on April 11th-12th. Provisional plans are for a special event to mark its 60th year: a ‘social’ run on the Saturday followed by a meal and quiz and on the Sunday, the ‘Road Safety Trial’ (with two route options, one for Veteran and Vintage machines).  (All Sunday entrants will be observed for their riding skills and machine handling, and will have to complete a fun questionnaire! )

Pre-booking will be necessary for both days.

For further details please see the  Events Calendar  .

Breakfast Run

The breakfast run, organised by Phil Ham, is a yearly treat starting with a hearty ‘full English’ cooked by the wonderful Ham family.

Twin Dragon Run

The twin dragon run is an annual weekend run from Somerset to Wales, so called because of the link between the dragon on Somerset County coat of arms and the dragon on the Welsh national flag.

The Signpost Rally and Social Run

A delight held in July.

For folks who like a challenge and are comfortable with maps, there is a route to plot from 12 photographs of signposts and the appropriate Ordinance Survey map. For each signpost there is  a question that can only be answered by visiting it. (Results count towards the Western Region Road Trials Championship and the Somerset Section’s Autumn Trial award.)

The alternative Social Run option (from the same start/end point)  is available for those who are happier with a ride in the country!

(Again, Phil Ham must be thanked for taking on the organisation of these.)
