Saturday
Sign on 9.30 to 10.30 with tea and coffee.
Then a social run of 75 miles across the Mendip Hills through Wells towards Frome. Lunch was taken at Ston Easton Village Hall – jacket potatoes with choice of fillings and salad accompanied by tea/coffee and excellent cakes!
After lunch, towards Glastonbury with an organised visit to the Somerset Rural Life Museum (below the Tor) who made us very welcome. Then returning through Westhay and Wedmore and across Nyland Drove to Cheddar Football club.
The weather was rather dull and threatening to start with but the rain kept away and the roads were mostly dry although with puddles. Extremely windy though!

Sunday
Sign on 9.30-10.30 again.
A morning run with a choice of one from two routes, a shorter route (designed by ‘a rider of veteran motorcycles’!) 22 miles through neighbouring Wedmore, across the Somerset levels and returning home through the medieval town of Axbridge with a coffee stop at Frankie Howerd’s Community Cafe and Hub at Loxton.
Alternatively, 47 miles on a longer route, across the Somerset levels and on towards Taunton, with the road tests taking place at Westonzoyland by courtesy of T and K Motorcycle Training (07739 324411 – thanks guys!) before returning to Cheddar via the medieval town of Axbridge.
At the finish, a Highway Code quiz, 3 ‘feely bags’ to decipher and a couple of ‘mystery questions’.
Finally lunch at Cheddar Football Club – either a Ham or Cheese Ploughmans and the bar openned also.
This time there was a lot of rain just before the start which discouraged several people – however, it did dry up and again wasn’t too cold, and definitely wasn’t as breezy as Saturday.
A more eventful day than Saturday though, with two casualties (the first, a puncture repaired at the roadside surely deserving a special award!) and one veteran claiming to have got lost!
Many thanks to Pat Wheway for taking on the organisation of the event.
