GUY FAWKES RUN – 4th November 2012
This was a day to remember! The ride to the start at Banwell looked ominous, the sky was black over the Mendips and the main road near Winscombe had flood water running across it! About ten hardy souls braved the weather and set off from the garden centre and made their way across the Somerset Levels and Moors before the steep ascent from Draycott up onto the top of the Mendips. Here there was fresh snow, most unusal for November in Somerset, but the Mendips are two overcoats colder than the lowlands!
After experiencing the snow it was down to the Chew Valley, back up Burrington Coombe and across to Cheddar Gorge. On our descent we found flood water running down the road which made the ride much more interesting! Whilst on the run the weather held and we got back to the garden centre for a Sunday Lunch. A great day out – thanks to Richard Gray for setting the route and organising the day.
