Ruth’s Day Out (May 2025)

Saturday 17th May, 10:00 for 10:30 at Pitney Playing Fields with a beautiful sunny late-spring day promised. It didn’t disappoint although slightly cool and grey at the start of the morning.

This year an initial 26-mile run around south Somerset, with plenty of byways, a touch of ‘almost off-roading’ (a road almost covered in sand this far from the coast?!) and a short stretch of the Fosse Way (after it has become a back lane). Fortunately the navigation was helped by some well-placed VMCC flags (the odd directive of ‘Stallholders Only’ obviously intended to sharpen the thinking) as this part of the route took us to the venue of this year’s special visit – Burrow Hill Cider Farm and Distillery.

Here we enjoyed an entertaining and educational guided tour and a sample of some of the produce, and a relaxing hour (or two) in the sunshine amid the late spring greenery of the orchards before the final 10-mile hop back to Pitney for a barbecue at the locally organised Classic Car show.

Many thanks to James and Ruth for organising.
